International Trade and Health [ITH] Conference 2017

toward international trade and Brexit, have inevitable consequences on international trade in our region and around the globe. In Thailand, national development policies, such as Thailand 4.0, which aims to develop an innovative, value-based industry and move Thailand towards high income country status; the 20-year National Strategy; the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2560-2564); and several other policies will collectively shape the country’s stance on international trade amid this changing environment. At the same time, health and demographic changes, as the country ages and sees a greater prevalence of chronic diseases, need to be taken into account when developing additional national policies aimed at securing Thailand’s future.

International trade policies have major implications for the nation’s health and health system. The International Trade and Health conference this year will therefore provide a platform for sharing of knowledge and understanding of international trade as it interfaces with the country’s health and health system both in the present and as we look towards the future. The conference will discuss what implications the current situation and future trends are likely to have on international trade related to health and provide recommendations as to what evidence, actions and capacity are needed for the country to develop effective trade-related policies that support the nation’s health and health system.
